La Ermita Church
Pablo Emilio Páez · Cali, Colombia · 1942
Cali's La Ermita church gives a compact religious building a highly visible Gothic Revival image. Its pointed arches, slender vertical elements and carefully organized frontage establish a clear landmark beside a busy urban setting. The present church dates from the twentieth century, replacing an earlier building. Its architectural interest lies in the translation of a historical language into a smaller modern structure and in the relationship between its decorated enclosure, worship interior and surrounding public space. Visiting: A working church. Visit outside services and follow locally posted access rules.
