Kyoto International Conference Center

Sachio Otani · Kyoto, Japan · 1966

Sachio Otani's conference center is one of Japan's most distinctive large civic complexes of the 1960s. Repeated inclined concrete frames create a powerful faceted silhouette, while bridges, terraces and courtyards break the massive program into a sequence of smaller spatial episodes. Later additions expanded the complex, but the original building remains a major example of structural expression and postwar monumentality.
