Kurashiki City Art Museum

Kenzo Tange · Kurashiki, Japan · 1960

The building was designed by Kenzo Tange as Kurashiki City Hall before being converted into an art museum. Its monumental concrete frame and deep facade grid provide a striking modernist counterpoint to the preserved merchant streets of the nearby Bikan Historical Quarter.
