Kolumba Museum
Peter Zumthor · Cologne, Germany · 2007
Peter Zumthor built the museum around the remains of the former St. Kolumba church. Carefully detailed brickwork, filtered light and a sequence of quiet rooms connect contemporary galleries with archaeological fragments, making continuity between different periods the central architectural subject. Visiting: The museum is ticketed, but the chapel "Madonna in the Ruins", enclosed within Zumthor's building, is free and entered from Kolumbastraße.
