Khoo Kongsi combines a clan association's ceremonial hall with an exceptionally elaborate field of carved and painted detail. Roof ornaments, timber work and sculptural elements give the building a dense material character. Its courtyard setting within George Town offers a close view of how communal institutions shaped the city's historic urban fabric.
