Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts
Safdie Architects · Kansas City, United States · 2011
Moshe Safdie's Kauffman Center places two performance halls beneath a pair of sweeping roof forms. Opened in 2011, the complex uses a large glazed public foyer to connect its auditoria with views across Kansas City. The separate shells express the different acoustic and operational requirements of the venues while presenting a unified image from the skyline. The most useful architectural sequence moves from the sloping urban site through the transparent gathering space into the more tightly controlled performance interiors. Visiting: The exterior has no admission charge. Performances and organized interior visits follow the centre's ticketing arrangements.
