Karl Ehn organized a vast municipal housing project around courtyards, shared facilities and monumental gateways. The long street frontage presents a collective civic image, while the interior open spaces reveal how social housing could combine domestic life with public amenities. Visiting: Still council housing; the street-facing arches and courtyards along Heiligenstädter Strasse are public routes. The Waschsalon museum on Red Vienna, inside the complex, opens Thursday and Sunday afternoons.
