Kaktus Towers
Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) · Copenhagen, Denmark · 2022
Kaktus Towers is a pair of residential towers in central Copenhagen distinguished by rotated floor plates and sharply projecting balconies. The towers use a faceted geometry to create a prickly, cactus-like silhouette while providing many apartments with outdoor space and strong views across the city. At ground level, the project contributes to the ongoing redevelopment of the area near the railway and waterfront, combining residential density with shared amenities and public-facing edges. The project is a useful contemporary counterpoint to BIG’s earlier Copenhagen housing experiments: instead of a horizontal block like 8 House, Kaktus explores how vertical repetition can still produce identity, texture, and social space.
