The Jordan Museum

Jafar Tukan · Amman, Jordan · 2014

The Jordan Museum provides a purpose-built national institution for archaeological, historical and cultural collections at Ras Al-Ayn in central Amman. Architect Jafar Tukan gives the building a substantial stone presence that relates to the material character of the city while creating large contemporary exhibition halls and controlled museum environments inside. The museum forms part of a broader civic district near the municipal headquarters rather than standing as an isolated cultural object. Opened in the 2010s, it is an important example of contemporary Jordanian public architecture and of Tukan’s long engagement with regional stone construction and civic identity.
