Johnson Wax Headquarters

Frank Lloyd Wright · Racine, United States · 1939

Frank Lloyd Wright’s Johnson Wax Administration Building reimagines the office as a luminous communal interior. Slender dendriform columns flare into broad circular capitals beneath a roof of glass tubing, producing the celebrated Great Workroom. Curved brick walls and streamlined furniture extend the architectural language through the entire workplace. The 1939 administration building was followed by Wright’s Research Tower in 1950, creating an unusually coherent corporate campus in which structure, daylight and industrial design are treated as one system.
