John Randle Centre for Yoruba Culture and History

SI.SA / Seun Oduwole · Lagos, Nigeria · 2023

The John Randle Centre reinterprets Yoruba cultural history through a contemporary museum and public complex in Onikan. SI.SA organized exhibition, performance and gathering spaces around a strong relationship with landscape and outdoor circulation, using textured surfaces and patterned architectural elements to connect contemporary construction with Yoruba visual culture. The center also incorporates archaeological and historical material associated with the former swimming-pool site. Opened in 2023, it adds a significant contemporary cultural institution to Lagos and emphasizes public space as much as enclosed museum program.
