Ještěd Tower

Karel Hubáček / SIAL · Liberec, Czechia · 1973

Karel Hubáček’s Ještěd Tower merges television transmitter, hotel and restaurant into a single hyperboloid form that appears to extend the profile of the mountain summit. The conical structure transitions continuously from broad public floors to the slender broadcasting mast, making the technical program inseparable from the architectural silhouette. Interior furniture and detailing were developed as part of the complete design. Opened in 1973, Ještěd is a landmark of Czechoslovak late modernism and one of the region’s strongest examples of architecture, engineering and landscape conceived as one composition.
