Jean-Marie Tjibaou Cultural Centre

Renzo Piano Building Workshop · Nouméa, New Caledonia · 1998

Renzo Piano organized a series of tall ribbed pavilions along a landscaped coastal site. The structures reinterpret Kanak building traditions through contemporary materials and environmental design, connecting cultural facilities with an architectural approach shaped by local climate and identity. Visiting: A paid museum and cultural centre. The wooden 'cases' by Renzo Piano are best seen from the path through the gardens.
