Jami Ul-Alfar Mosque

Habibu Lebbe Saibu Lebbe · Colombo, Sri Lanka · 1909

Jami Ul-Alfar Mosque is recognized by its emphatic red-and-white patterned surfaces. Arches, domed elements and vertical accents turn a relatively tight urban site into a striking presence in Colombo's Pettah district. Its architectural effect comes from both the building's layered composition and its close relationship with the surrounding commercial streets. Visiting: A religious site. Basic access is normally free, with local worship, dress and photography restrictions; additional visitor attractions can be charged.
