Jaisalmer Fort

Rajput court workshops · Jaisalmer, India

Jaisalmer Fort is a living urban enclosure whose sandstone walls contain homes, temples, shops and palace spaces. Its architecture is experienced through narrow streets and changing levels as much as through individual monuments. The close relationship between fortification and everyday settlement gives the site a different character from an isolated palace museum. Visiting: A living fortified settlement. Streets and separate ticketed palace or temple attractions have different admission arrangements.
