Inujima Seirensho Art Museum

Hiroshi Sambuichi · Okayama, Japan · 2008

Hiroshi Sambuichi reuses the ruins of a former copper refinery as both museum and environmental machine. Brick walls, underground passages and carefully directed airflows use the island's sun, wind and thermal mass to temper the galleries with minimal mechanical intervention. Rather than restoring the industrial complex to a single historical moment, the project makes decay, landscape and new architecture operate together.
