Independence Memorial Hall, Colombo
Tom Neville Wynne-Jones · Colombo, Sri Lanka · 1953
Colombo's Independence Memorial Hall uses an open-sided stone pavilion to mark a major civic event. Its columns, roof form and carved details draw on Sri Lankan architectural traditions. Set within a landscaped public precinct, the building makes ceremonial gathering and informal everyday use part of the same spatial setting. Visiting: Free to walk around in Independence Square, Cinnamon Gardens; the Independence Memorial Museum is in the base.
