Imam Abu Hanifa Grand Mosque

Tajik-Qatari project team · Dushanbe, Tajikistan · 2019

The Imam Abu Hanifa Grand Mosque is a vast contemporary religious complex combining a central domed prayer hall, four 74-meter minarets, multiple smaller domes, courtyards, educational spaces and a library. The architecture combines Tajik decorative traditions with a large-scale contemporary mosque typology developed through cooperation with Qatar. Construction extended for roughly a decade and was substantially completed in 2019, although the formal inauguration was delayed until June 2023. Using 2019 as the architectural completion date distinguishes the built project from its later public opening while preserving that chronology in the QA notes.
