Ibrahim Rauza

Malik Sandal · Vijayapura, India · 1627

Ibrahim Rauza brings a mausoleum and mosque into a carefully balanced garden composition. The buildings share a raised platform and a richly worked architectural vocabulary, with domes, slender minarets and fine stone detail giving the ensemble its identity. The contrast between ceremonial approach and close craftsmanship makes it a major work of the Adil Shahi period. Visiting: Entry is ticketed, with higher rates for foreign visitors.
