Ibirapuera Auditorium
Oscar Niemeyer · São Paulo, Brazil · 2005
The Ibirapuera Auditorium gives Oscar Niemeyer's long-running park ensemble a distinct performance venue. Opened in 2005, the building combines a restrained white exterior with a strongly marked entrance and a programme organized around music. Its relationship with the park allows indoor and outdoor activity to be considered together rather than treating the auditorium as a wholly sealed object. The project is useful for comparing a compact, legible external form with the more specialized technical and acoustic requirements contained within. Visiting: The park exterior is free. Indoor performances and tours depend on the programme.
