Iberê Camargo Foundation
Álvaro Siza Vieira · Porto Alegre, Brazil · 2008
Álvaro Siza's Iberê Camargo Foundation places a compact museum between a steep hillside and the waterfront of Porto Alegre. Opened in 2008, its pale concrete body contains galleries connected by a distinctive system of ramps and circulation. Some routes project beyond the main volume, making movement visible in the exterior composition. The architecture alternates between inward-looking exhibition spaces and carefully controlled views of the landscape, giving a relatively constrained site a varied and extended visitor experience. Visiting: Regular admission is charged from Friday to Sunday. Thursday admission is free under the current visitor arrangements.
