Humayun's Tomb

Mirak Mirza Ghiyas; Sayyid Muhammad · Delhi, India · 1572

Humayun's garden tomb establishes a powerful relationship between landscape, ceremonial approach and a raised mausoleum. Red sandstone walls, pale marble detailing and the great central dome give the building a clear silhouette. The surrounding quadripartite garden provides a setting for studying the geometric planning and layered thresholds of Mughal funerary architecture. Visiting: Entry is ticketed, with higher rates for foreign visitors.
