Hotel Ukraina

Arkady Mordvinov + Vyacheslav Oltarzhevsky · Moscow, Russia · 1957

Hotel Ukraina is one of Moscow’s seven Stalinist high-rises and combines a monumental central hotel tower with lower wings extending along the Moskva River. Arkady Mordvinov and Vyacheslav Oltarzhevsky developed a richly detailed composition of setbacks, towers and a tall spire that translated Soviet monumental classicism into hotel infrastructure. Opened in 1957, it was among the world’s tallest hotels and helped define the western approach to central Moscow. Later renovated as the Radisson Collection Hotel, the building retains its original skyline role and much of its ceremonial character.
