Hotel Guaraní
Adolpho Rubio Morales + Rubens Carneiro Vianna + Ricardo Sievers · Asunción, Paraguay · 1961
Hotel Guaraní introduced a strongly modern vertical presence to central Asunción in the early 1960s. Designed by a Brazilian-Paraguayan architectural team, the tower rises above a lower public base facing Plaza de la Democracia and uses repetitive façade elements to give the large hotel a disciplined modernist expression. The project became an emblem of Paraguay’s mid-century modernization and remains one of the most prominent examples of International Style-influenced architecture in the capital.
