Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum
Garold Isakovich; Soviet and Vietnamese design team · Hanoi, Vietnam · 1975
Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum uses a massive, stepped composition to establish a national memorial facing Ba Dinh Square. The restrained stone exterior contrasts with the controlled sequence of internal spaces. Landscape, ceremonial approaches and the relationship with the open square give the building its wider urban and political setting. Visiting: Free, with morning-only opening on most days and closures for maintenance. Strict dress code, no photography inside, and bags are checked.
