Hiroshima City Museum of Contemporary Art

Kisho Kurokawa · Hiroshima, Japan · 1989

Kisho Kurokawa places the museum on Hijiyama as a sequence of granite-clad geometric forms, terraces and axial exterior spaces. The complex combines a formal, almost archaeological monumentality with changing interior galleries and framed views over Hiroshima. Its later renovation has preserved the original architectural identity while updating the institution for contemporary use.
