Heritance Kandalama
Geoffrey Bawa · Dambulla, Sri Lanka · 1994
Heritance Kandalama follows the contours of a rocky hillside above a reservoir. Geoffrey Bawa uses a long, relatively restrained building to frame views and allow vegetation to become part of the architectural experience. Terraces, shaded circulation and the relationship between rooms and landscape make the hotel a major example of tropical modernism. Visiting: Working hotel. Architecture can be experienced by guests or through arrangements made with the hotel; public viewpoints do not grant access to private hotel facilities.
