Harpa Concert Hall and Conference Centre

Henning Larsen Architects + Batteríið Architects + Ólafur Elíasson (façade) · Reykjavík, Iceland · 2011

Harpa gives Reykjavík a major civic room at the edge of the old harbor. Opened in 2011, the concert and conference center was developed by Henning Larsen Architects and Batteríið Architects, with the crystalline façade created in collaboration with artist Ólafur Elíasson. The geometric glass skin changes continually with daylight, weather and reflections from the harbor, while large foyers provide public views toward sea and city. Harpa became an emblem of Reykjavík’s contemporary architecture and a catalyst in the redevelopment of the waterfront.
