Habima National Theatre

Oskar Kaufmann; Eugene Stolzer · Tel Aviv, Israel · 1945

Habima Theatre, Israel’s national theatre, is located on Habima Square in central Tel Aviv. The theatre company was established in 1917, and the Tel Aviv building was designed by Oskar Kaufmann and Eugene Stolzer and completed in 1945. Its modernist civic presence makes it a central part of Tel Aviv’s cultural core. The building underwent a major renovation and expansion in the early 21st century, with Ram Karmi commissioned to redesign the historic building. The renovation modernized the auditoriums, backstage areas, rehearsal rooms, and public interfaces while preserving Habima’s role as a major national cultural institution.
