Gyeongbokgung

Joseon royal workshops · Seoul, South Korea

Gyeongbokgung organizes a major royal palace through gates, courts and halls set against the mountains north of central Seoul. Its present form reflects extensive reconstruction and conservation. The strong central axis and repeated changes of scale make the transition from public approach to ceremonial interior spaces especially legible. Visiting: Entry is ticketed; visitors wearing hanbok enter free, and the changing of the guard at Gwanghwamun gate can be watched freely.
