Guthrie Theater
Ateliers Jean Nouvel · Minneapolis, United States · 2006
Jean Nouvel's Guthrie Theater brings performance spaces into a dark blue complex overlooking the Mississippi. Opened in 2006, the building is distinguished by its projecting Endless Bridge, which turns an internal public route into an elevated viewing platform. Different auditoria and gathering spaces occupy a large industrial-scale composition suited to its riverfront setting. The contrast between the relatively closed exterior, brightly characterized interiors and outward-looking public spaces is central to the architectural experience. Visiting: Public lobbies and the Endless Bridge are normally free during public opening hours. Performances and some tours are ticketed.
