Guatemala Post Office Palace

Unknown · Guatemala City, Guatemala · 1940

The Post Office Palace is distinguished by its elevated pedestrian arch spanning the street between two wings of the complex. The picturesque composition mixes arcades, tile roofs and colonial-revival references with a program tied to modern postal and telegraph infrastructure. Rather than expressing communications technology through an industrial language, the building embeds it within a highly recognizable historicist civic image. Its bridge has become one of the most distinctive architectural elements of Guatemala City’s historic center.
