Granada Cathedral
Andrés Zapata · Granada, Nicaragua · 1915
Granada's cathedral stands at the edge of the city's central park, giving its domes and towers a broad urban foreground. The present building belongs to several later rebuilding campaigns on a much older religious site. Its symmetrical frontage and repeated classical elements connect it with the surrounding civic fabric, while the interior establishes a more regular sequence of bays and worship spaces. An architectural visit benefits from comparing views across the park with the closer experience of its entrances, side elevations and interior. Visiting: A working cathedral. Tower visits and tourism activities may have separate charges. The 1915 date refers to a principal building campaign; later work continued.
