Government House, Belize

Unknown · Belize City, Belize · 1812

Government House is one of Belize City’s most important surviving colonial residences. The timber building uses broad verandas, elevated living spaces and a symmetrical composition suited to the hot, humid climate while maintaining the formal presence expected of a governor’s residence. Its later conversion into a cultural venue preserved the building after its governmental role ended. The project is significant as a rare large-scale example of Caribbean colonial domestic architecture adapted to local environmental conditions and civic representation.
