Golconda Fort

Kakatiya and Qutb Shahi builders · Hyderabad, India

Golconda Fort spreads across a rocky hill on the edge of Hyderabad. Walls, gateways, courts and palace remains form a sequence of defensive and ceremonial spaces that responds to the difficult terrain. The ascent reveals how the fort's architecture connected military control, water management, royal occupation and views over the surrounding landscape. Visiting: Entry is ticketed, with higher rates for foreign visitors. The evening sound-and-light show is ticketed separately.
