Ginza Sony Park
Nobuo Araki / Sony project team · Tokyo, Japan · 2024
Ginza Sony Park rethinks the former Sony Building site as a vertical urban platform rather than a conventional commercial tower. Completed in its final form in 2025, the project extends the earlier temporary park experiment into a multi-level public environment linking street, underground concourse, exhibitions, events and rooftop space. Its architectural character is intentionally raw and flexible, using concrete, open circulation and a spiral vertical promenade to create a place that can host changing programs. In a district dominated by luxury retail, Ginza Sony Park is important because it introduces a different urban rhythm: openness, pause and public use on one of Tokyo’s most expensive plots. It is one of Ginza’s most relevant new landmarks.
