Gandantegchinlen Monastery brings a major Buddhist institution into the urban landscape of Ulaanbaatar. Its temples, courts and religious objects developed through successive periods of construction and revival. The complex is experienced as a living religious precinct whose buildings operate at a distinctly different scale from much of the surrounding modern city.
