Fisher Building

Albert Kahn Associates · Detroit, United States · 1928

The Fisher Building gives an office and theatre complex an elaborate Art Deco civic image. Completed in 1928 by Albert Kahn's practice, its tower rises above a richly finished lower body containing public circulation and commercial functions. Stone surfaces, metalwork and decorated vaulted spaces distinguish the interior from the more repetitive office floors above. The building is especially rewarding at ground level, where the lobby explains how commercial development, performance and public passage could be combined within an ambitious early twentieth-century urban project. Visiting: The public lobby can normally be visited during building hours. Organized tour arrangements vary.
