Federico García Lorca Centre

MX_SI architectural studio · Granada, Spain · 2015

The Federico García Lorca Centre places an archive, exhibition spaces and performance facilities within Granada's historic centre. MX_SI completed the building in 2015, giving the public institution a strong but carefully controlled presence beside Plaza de la Romanilla. Its main public routes connect the square with cultural spaces, while the archive requires a more protected environment. The project is valuable for examining how a contemporary building can accommodate both an open civic role and the technical demands of preserving fragile material. The contrast between public gathering areas and the archive is central to its organization. Visiting: Public exhibitions are generally free. Performances and special activities may have separate tickets.
