FAU-USP Building
João Batista Vilanova Artigas; Carlos Cascaldi · São Paulo, Brazil · 1969
The FAU-USP building organizes an architecture school around a large shared interior and a continuous system of ramps. Vilanova Artigas and Carlos Cascaldi gave the institution a substantial concrete enclosure, inaugurated in 1969, with teaching spaces connected through open circulation and the central gathering area. The project makes collective activity a visible part of architectural education. Its importance lies in the relationship between structure, social space and movement, where the building can be read as an argument about how a public school should function. Visiting: A working public architecture faculty. Confirm current visitor authorization before entering teaching areas.
