Fagus Factory

Walter Gropius; Adolf Meyer · Alfeld, Germany · 1911

Gropius and Meyer used broad glazing and visually light corners to transform the image of a factory. The workshop facades give industrial production an unusually open character. The complex remains an important reference for the development of modern architectural envelopes. Visiting: Still a working factory. The Fagus-Gropius exhibition is open daily (10:00–17:00 April–October, until 16:00 in winter), and public tours run at 13:00 on Saturdays and Sundays.
