Estadio Olímpico Universitario
Augusto Pérez Palacios + Jorge Bravo + Raúl Salinas · Mexico City, Mexico · 1952
UNAM’s Olympic Stadium is embedded into the volcanic landscape of Ciudad Universitaria rather than raised as an isolated monumental bowl. The asymmetrical seating form follows the terrain and is faced in dark local stone, while Diego Rivera’s mosaic relief integrates public art with the outer wall. Opened in 1952, the stadium later hosted the 1968 Olympic Games. Its low silhouette and landscape relationship make it a key component of the UNESCO-listed university campus and an important example of Mexican modernism grounded in place.
