El Castillo Museum

Nel Rodríguez · Medellín, Colombia · 1930

El Castillo brings a house inspired by European historic architecture into Medellín's El Poblado landscape. Designed by Nel Rodríguez and completed in 1930, the building's towers, roofs and masonry create a deliberate contrast with the surrounding tropical setting. Its later conversion into a museum preserves a sequence of furnished rooms and gardens. The project is most revealing as an example of domestic representation, where an imported architectural image was adapted to a local site and subsequently turned into a public cultural experience. Visiting: The historic house and gardens are visited under the museum's ticket and tour arrangements.
