El Capitolio, Havana

Eugenio Rayneri Piedra; Raúl Otero · Havana, Cuba · 1929

The Capitol combines a monumental dome, a broad stair and a formal sequence of public rooms. Eugenio Rayneri Piedra’s design gives the building a commanding presence at the edge of Old Havana, making its relationship to the surrounding streets and open spaces particularly clear. Visiting: Interior visits are by ticketed guided tour; the dome and colonnade on Paseo del Prado can be seen freely.
