Einstein Tower
Erich Mendelsohn · Potsdam, Germany · 1924
Erich Mendelsohn shaped this observatory as a continuous, sculptural tower rising from a low base. Rounded surfaces and a strongly modeled entrance connect the scientific program with an expressive architectural language, quite different from the rectilinear modernism developing at the same time. Visiting: The tower is a working observatory; interior access is limited to occasional guided tours, and the exterior can be seen on the Telegrafenberg science park.
