Education City Mosque

Mangera Yvars Architects · Al Rayyan, Qatar · 2015

Education City Mosque is integrated with the Minaretein building of Hamad Bin Khalifa University and uses a contemporary abstract language rather than a conventional historical mosque composition. Two exceptionally slender minarets rise above a faceted white complex whose courtyards, stairs and shaded exterior spaces connect worship with the surrounding academic campus. Inside, calligraphy and patterned surfaces accompany a broad prayer hall shaped by controlled daylight. Completed in 2015, the mosque is a major example of contemporary Islamic architecture in Qatar and of religious space functioning as part of an educational institution.
