Petroperú Building

Walter Weberhofer + Daniel Arana Ríos · Lima, Peru · 1973

The Petroperú headquarters is one of the clearest expressions of Peru’s institutional brutalism of the early 1970s. Walter Weberhofer and Daniel Arana composed the complex from a monumental concrete tower, lower volumes and deeply modeled circulation elements, giving the state company a deliberately technological and powerful image. Built and inaugurated in 1973, the building became closely associated with the modernizing ambitions of the period and remains a major landmark on Lima’s Paseo de la República.
