Eames House
Charles Eames + Ray Eames · Los Angeles, United States · 1949
The Eames House combines an economical prefabricated steel frame with an intensely personal domestic environment. Charles and Ray Eames arranged standard industrial components into two rectilinear volumes for living and studio work, preserving the meadow and eucalyptus trees of the site rather than leveling it. Color panels, glazing, collections and furniture turn the modular shell into a richly layered interior. Completed in 1949 as part of the Case Study House program, it became a canonical model for flexible, industrialized post-war housing.
