Dortheavej 2 Residences

Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) · Copenhagen, Denmark · 2018

Dortheavej 2 Residences is a social-housing project in Copenhagen that uses a simple modular system to create generous spatial variety. The building is composed of prefabricated modules stacked in a gentle curve, producing a porous frontage, varied balconies, and a courtyard condition without relying on expensive formal gestures. Its facade alternates between timber, glazing, and deep reveals, giving the affordable housing block a dignified and warm character. The project is important because it translates BIG’s large-scale conceptual thinking into a restrained social-housing context. It shows how repetition, budget constraints, and modular construction can still produce identity, daylight, and community-oriented space.
