Doi Tung Royal Villa
Royal Household architects under Princess Srinagarindra · Chiang Rai, Thailand · 1988
Doi Tung Royal Villa was built as the northern residence of Princess Srinagarindra, the Princess Mother, at the center of a wider social and environmental development project. The architecture combines a Swiss chalet-like form with northern Thai timber craft, reflecting her years abroad and the mountain climate of the site. Deep roofs, balconies and extensive woodwork give the house a warm domestic character, while terraces open toward the surrounding hills and Mae Fah Luang Garden. The villa is modest in royal terms and is closely tied to the Doi Tung Development Project's history of reforestation and livelihood creation. Its significance therefore extends from architectural hybridity to landscape and social program.
